THE RIOT REPORT is truly an exceptional account about 1967's rioting and the Kerner Report--it is clearly the best documentary on each. To find out even more about both, including why the rioting seemed to suddenly stop, whether it was similar to the disorders that occurred after the death of George Floyd, and how the Kerner Commission overcame numerous obstacles and strongly-held differing views to unanimously adopt a powerfully-worded report, please read TWO SOCIETIES: THE RIOTING OF 1967 AND THE WRITING OF THE KERNER REPORT, which is being published by Rowman & Littlefield and can now be pre-ordered from the publisher, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble for delivery in July.

I remember reading in college that black banks helped save the country during the Great Depression, providing lending to families because they operated outside of mainstream banking. And then Congress passed the Emergency Banking Act of 1933, which basically put rules in place that destroyed Blacks' ability to operate outside of mainstream banking. I did not hear this mentioned in your presentation and was wondering if this was why so many black banks "failed" during the Great Depression - not that they "failed" but the government put regulations in place that did not allow them to function, thus "failing."

I have never agreed with anyone being uncompromising about giving an opinion that must be experienced through the values of author for the " thing" you oppose... See the film first, listen to Eminem first... No, that gives weight to say... Research the opposing views, everybody. Ok, but all artists know that the audience is not a collegial debate team. The audience is not a peer; the world is bigger than any niche. Mrs. Akil's statement about Black men being killed from being seen is true. The statement that affirms Black Academic women by the director doesn't affirm unity. It would have been better to have talked to both genders and then made a decision. His summary decision added value to his perspective, his authority versus the company. How would that add to the young boy who does not see himself tell his own story? No, problem with creating narratives that keep Black males as dead bodies as being painfully authentic... No, preference based on a gender, class, status, sexual preference age, ability, skin tone there. My Aunt is a Doctoral professor, so I know she feels my fairness. Disappointing response by the director. Can only women tell his story? Both genders need to heard often... often...

In 1973, the US government officially changed the threshold to diagnose mental deficiency from 80 points to 70 points in order to assuage the civil rights leaders. We see why the civil rights leaders needed that to be done here on this stage. They're like children, fragile, narcissistic, stunted children, but told they're "intellectual" and "oppressed". 🤷🏽‍♀️
